Your initial post should describe your experiences in the course this past week, prompting further discussion. Address at least two of the following questions Was there anything that caused you to view the world around you differently or examine a topic from a different perspective? What struck you in particular as you explored the course materials this week? You are required to post at least 150 total words in this forum this week Need responses for the following students Ivette In what ways have urban legends adapted over time, both in terms of the content of urban legends and the way in which the spread over time? In time I feel that urban legends do not change too much. I believe that certain terms may change because it depends on the areas that they are told, whether it may be in a wooded area, or near a body of water like a river or lake, or even in rural areas, where there are farms. No matter where it is, the storyline usually stay the same, and it at be believable to some because they were born and raised in the area or have been living there a long time. What urban legends, folklore, or scary supernatural tales do you remember hearing about as a child? The legend that I remember the most was the one about the teenagers making out in a dead end wooded area, the boy hears some noise, goes out to check and never returns, meanwhile the girl hears some scratching on the car, she then goes out and sees her boyfriend hanging from the tree above the car stabbed and killed. She then disappears and they assume she is dead. Joseph Are there elements to these stories that deal with death and survival or both?     The tales that I have read deal with both. The elements of these tales usually have ghosts (paranormal) and shadow people. There is a key difference when reading stories when reading about either ghosts or shadow people. Ghost stories are typically about members of families who pass away, and shadow people are typically about demonic forces that have never actually “been alive”. What do you think urban legends will look like in the future?     In the future, I feel that urban legends won’t stray to far from what they are today. Its comical to think about, but the ghosts, goblins and ghouls seem to be very well versed with technology. “Legends are very similar to myths but usually deal with a more recent period of time (Crapo, 2013)”. Knowing this, Urban Legends from 1800s would be considered less scary in today’s society, unless there were some relevance or factual evidence keeping them alive. One of the best Legends that still exist today would be stories of alien abductions. One of the first alien abduction stories that happened in the 60s, still hold up to today’s standards, as we can still relate today. Also, with our every growing society towards technology these kinds of stories continue to grow in popularity.
